A little over a year ago our office received a cold call from an Appalachian State student studying Criminal Justice. This student, Johnson Huffman, wanted to be an intern with our agency and in January 2020 we granted his request and he started his internship with the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office.
In short order Mr. Huffman proved himself to be a dedicated, focused and professional addition to every facet of our team here at ACSO. Within his six month internship he created, cataloged and completely organized our supply room. He also assisted us with acquiring donations of some much-needed tools and even a vehicle from the United States military. Mr. Johnson was invaluable, assisting us in the jail and with several important administrative tasks throughout his time with us.
When his internship was over and his class paperwork turned-in we offered Mr. Huffman a part-time position as a Detention Officer while he waited to ship off to military training.
Today we have learned that our former intern is now Specialist Johnson Huffman, a Military Police Officer with the United States Army. Now that his training is over, Spc. Huffman is headed back to North Carolina where he will serve as an MP at Fort Bragg.
We were lucky to have him as an Intern and grateful for his service to both Ashe County and to our country.
