A BIG THANK YOU from Sheriff Howell to Principal Jennifer Holden for inviting us to tour Westwood Elementary School.
Students and staff did an excellent job in preparing and presenting several different educational items that are going on this year at the school. Westwood has overall exceeded in growth in education already this year and they are striving to meet more growth in the next half of the year. Westwood is an A+ School of North Carolina that uses arts as fundamentals for teaching and learning. Westwood is also active in the STEAM Education approach to learning utilizing science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics for guiding students in their education. In regards to performing arts, Mr. Franca has also put on 10 official performances and 3 summer productions since the school opened in 2004.
Today we got to see and learn about some teaching projects that were purchased with the Endowment Grant that the school was awarded. We were able to watch and take part of the Merge Cubes with a few of the students and we also learned about Westwood’s nature trail that was created during COVID to get the students out of the class room and able to interact with nature while reading books.
We appreciated Superintendent Dr. Eisa Cox, Principal Holden and all the staff for their hard work and dedication to Westwood Elementary!!!
