Crimestoppers 911
The Ashe County Sheriff’s Office works closely with Crimestoppers, a community program that allows residents to provide anonymous information about criminal activity here in Ashe County. Managed by a non-profit group, Crimestoppers operates separately from our 911 Communications Center and our other standard methods of contacting our deputies. This allows a person to provide crime-solving assistance to us without being directly involved in the investigation process.
Overview:
Often times citizens may be reluctant to contact the law enforcement directly with information that could help prevent or solve a crime. This may be due to fear. Often citizens with information about crimes believe if they reveal their identity they would expose themselves or their families to acts of retaliation by the criminal(s).
In most of these instances these citizens will not come forward with information. In order to share information with law enforcement, citizens must be assured they will be provided complete anonymity. Crimestoppers is the answer to this problem and has been working to stop and solve important crimes here in Ashe County for years.
Through the Crimestoppers program, citizens who have knowledge of a specific crime are encouraged, either for civic or monetary reasons, to come forward to law enforcement. Through this program, the public is reminded that the police need their assistance to keep Ashe County a safe place to live. Crimestoppers allows any citizen coming forward with information to remain completely anonymous. In this way, the citizen is assured that their identity will be protected and that any useful information relayed will be utilized.
